What is the Ideal Idea for a Home Based Business?

My last post on generating ideas for a home based business showed that building a how-to e-book business on the Internet could be the best method for you.

"But," you may exclaim, "don't I have to write a book in order to publish it on the Web?"

This uneasiness may cause you to question if this idea is really for you. The good news is that with how-to books there's not really that much writing. It is not like writing a novel. In how-to books, simple directions accompanied by lots of pictures and illustrations get the point of your lesson across more readily than dense pages of text. A picture is worth a thousand words!

If you were to create a how-to book about gourmet cooking, or another of your interests, you may be surprised how easy it is. Cookbooks, whether filled with techniques or recipes, work exceptionally well with photos showing step-by-step preparations or methods, captioned with simple and clear instructions.

A new home study course by Kevin Riley, a highly successful infopreneur since 1995, teaches you the nuts and bolts of creating e-books. From deciding on your best idea to how to take the right pictures, assemble the book, and market it, no step is left out. With this course you will create books that will build a solid Internet business, one where you do the work once, and earn steady income for years as you sell them from a page on the Internet.

This could just be the best of all ideas for a home based business. Click here now to find out for sure.

Brainstorming Ideas for a Successful Home Based Business

First step in brainstorming a list of ideas for a home based business is to determine whether you want to:

  • Work from your home. Criteria for this – do you like working with people? Do you want to go outside the home?

  • Or work at home. You set your own schedule and you can work in your pjs, night or day.

Second step is to assess your strengths and weaknesses, your skills and passions.

Next, make a list of everything that interests you. What activities stimulate you? What sports, hobbies, or subjects do you enjoy? For example, do you collect items such as Victorian dolls, car models, or Sci-Fi figures? You can list a number of businesses around any of these items.

  1. Sell items on eBay.

  2. Run a successful blog or website of your own to sell items.

  3. Write e-books about collecting and sell them via the Internet.

Or maybe you are a gourmet cook with a flair for concocting your own special recipes. With this gift you can;

  1. Teach classes on gourmet cooking.

  2. Operate a party catering service.

  3. Write e-books filled with techniques, tips and recipes and sell them via the Internet.

The list and possibilities are endless.

Now, consider your lifestyle and choose which of these ideas agree with you the most. Sourcing items and selling them on eBay is physical and sometimes needs funds upfront. The same is true with a catering service. Plus teaching can be something you’d enjoy, but it demands a less flexible schedule. You can’t cancel when the children are sick or other emergencies arise.

But you can teach another way – through e-books. And this can be very rewarding and profitable. You determine your own schedule, and because e-books are digital, you ship via the Internet – no shipping costs, or storage fees. Finally, create the book once, sell it many times over, therefore your profit margin is very high.

Setting up a business selling your own how-to books is a lot easier than you might think. A recently released home study course details step by step just how easily you can achieve an independent and profitable lifestyle.

Economy Woes 2009

The world’s economy is in the toilet and not expected to get better anytime soon. In fact, despite the combined efforts of the G7 governments, things are not expected to turn around until 2010. The TV news continuously serves up dire and depressing reports until it hurts and you just want to switch them off. But just like a painful tooth you keep probing with your tongue, you can't stop watching and you simply switch channels looking for some glimmer of hope.

So what do you do until 2010? But today is all you can really think about because, despite the economic downturn;

  • the bills keep piling up and you are worried about your job,

  • the children keep growing and need new clothes almost on a weekly basis,

  • your car needs a major tune-up even though you're driving it less

  • and forget about the new roof for the house...

The solution is obvious, you need to make extra money on a regular basis and soon. If you have managed to put away funds for a 'rainy day', they won't last forever.

So how can you make fast extra cash legally?

  • ask your boss for a raise

  • put in extra hours at work

  • get a part-time job in addition to your full-time one

  • cut down on expenses

  • raid the attic and sell any surplus possessions…

But these solutions can have adverse effects on your work and home environments;

  • your boss is a skinflint even when the economy is good - he's already cutting back on your regular hours and still expects a full day's work from you

  • you can't put your job in jeopardy by pushing for a raise or extra hours

  • part-time jobs are at a premium and hard to come by - if you do get one, your time with the family is reduced, and you still need to eat, bathe and sleep

  • your expenses are already cut to the bone - you had to cancel the March-break road trip that the family has been looking forward to for the past year

  • nothing left in the attic - maybe it's time to raid the neighbors' attics and sell their stuff on eBay

So is there a better solution?

Have you ever consider a home based business? Yes? No? But, you may add, starting a business in this economy is nuts as it probably costs lots of money! Not really – there are a number of online businesses that can be started on a shoestring budget and you can earn as you go.

Tomorrow we will look at some Ideas for a Successful Home Based Business in 2009…
